An infection with a novel coronavirus has been reported from China. As on 11th January, 2020, 41 confirmed cases have been reported so far, of which one has died. Only travel related cases have been reported (one each) in Thailand and Japan. The clinical signs and symptoms are mainly fever with a few patients having difficulty in breathing.

Mode of transmission is unclear as of now. However, so far there is little evidence of significant human- to-human transmission.

Although as per World Health Organization’s risk assessment the risk for global spread has been stated as low, as a matter of abundant precaution, the travellers to China are advised the following:

• Travelers to China should follow simple public health measures at all times as under:
  • Observe good personal hygiene
  • Practice frequent hand washing with soap
  • Follow respiratory etiquettes - cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness, such as cough, runny nose etc.
  • Avoid contact with live animals and consumption of raw/undercooked meats
  • Avoid travel to farms, live animal markets or where animals are slaughtered
  • Wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose
• All travellers to China (in particular Wuhan city) to monitor their health closely.
• If you feel sick and have fever and cough:
• Cover your mouth while coughing or sneezing
  • Don’t plan travels if sick
  • Seek medical attention promptly
• If you feel sick on flight, while traveling back to India:
  • Inform the airlines crew about illness
  • Seek mask from the airlines crew
  • Avoid close contact with family members or fellow travellers
  • Follow the directions of airline crew while disembarking
• If you feel sick on flight or at the time of disembarkation:
  • Report to airport health authorities/immigration
  • Follow the direction of the airport health officer
•  If you feel sick with in a span of one month after return from China:
  • Report the illness to the nearest health facility and also inform the treating doctor regarding your travel history

Dear Colleagues,
Greetings from Secretariat of Hospital Infection Society – India!
As you are aware that Hospital Infection Society – India is conducting Online Elections 2019 for the National Executive Council members for 2019.
The voting will begin on August 18, 2019 9:00 AM and end on August 31, 2019 at 12 Midnight. To facilitate ease of voting and to maximize the participation of HISI members with security and safety features as required in the conduct of a smooth and transparent online poll.
The guidelines for electronic voting are as follows:

•  All members can log into the following election domain https://www.hisindia.net/UserLogin/MemberShipNoVerification and enter the login with enter Membership No. (Registered with HISI).
•  There would be an authentication factor wherein a One Time Password (OTP) would be sent to the registered mobile number of the user with HISI, once the member selects “Generate OTP option”.
• Please keep the election window open until OTP is received and don’t close it until the process is completed.
• This OTP is valid for a period of 30 minutes and the member has to enter the last OTP received in the login page in order to obtain access to the voting page for participating in the online elections.
• Members whose mobile numbers are not registered or incorrectly registered with HISI are advised to please update their profile urgently.
•  Notification messages would be sent to the registered mobile numbers of the users to intimate and remind the members to cast their vote when the election window is open.
•  Eligible voters can log into the https://www.hisindia.net website or directly on the election domain to cast their valuable vote during the election period.
•  Guideline on voting, is available on the https://www.hisindia.net website also.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Body Meeting of the Hospital Infection Society- India is scheduled to be held during HISICON 2019 XVI National Conference of Hospital Infection Society - India on Saturday the 14th September, 2019 from 05:00pm onwards at Alexander Fleming Hall, 4A JBS Haldane Avenue, Tangra, Kolkata to consider the following agenda:

1. Confirmation of minutes of General Body Meeting held on Octorber 5, 2108 at HISCON 2018, Hyderabad

2. Consideration and adoption of Annual Report (Secretary Report) of the society.

3. Consideration and adoption of the audited Statement of Accounts for the year ended March 31, 2019

4. Appointment of Auditors and fixing of their remuneration.

5. Constitutional amendment in HISI constitution.

6. Date and Venue of Next Conferences HISICON 2020.

Election Rules and Regulations of Hospital Infection Society – India

Qualification for National Executive Council

As per constitution of the Society, (Hospital Infection Society – India) the National Executive Councilconsists of 12 members of which three shall be Clinicians, two shall be Medical Administrators, seven members should be Microbiologists, one should be an ICN & one CSSD manager.
Only those Life members of the Society who have completed at lest four (04) years of life membership, shall be eligible to contest the election or to propose or second the candidature of any member.

Each nomination should be duly proposed and seconded by a Life member of HIS-India and the candidate should give consent for the same. Process of nomination and approval by proposer and member seconding the application must be done online. All particulars contained in the Nomination form should be correctly filled up.

The election process is available online on HISI website https://www.hisindia.net. Members are advised to first update their personal profile on the website before initiating the process of nomination. They should also ensure that personal profiles of proposer and member seconding the nomination are updated online. Protocol for voting process will be displayed on HISI website and sent through email once nominations are obtained.
